Independence Plant is a source of safe and reliable electrical power located near Newark, Arkansas. The site has been home to two coal-fired generating units since the early 1980s. Unit 1 began commercial operation in 1983, followed a year later by Unit 2, which began commercial operation in 1984. For more than 30 years, the station has provided low-cost power. In addition to electricity, Independence Plant also generates a significant positive community impact in the White River Valley region of Arkansas, and attracts a highly skilled workforce of employees and contractors who live in and invest their time in the nearby communities.
